Recognition

As a specialist in cosmetic plastic surgery of the face and body, Dr. Hamas has been interviewed extensively by the media. He has been a guest on nationally syndicated radio talk shows, has appeared on the Cable News Network and local television news shows, and has been quoted in numerous newspaper and magazine articles.
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" invited Dr. Hamas to be a guest and speak on behalf of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He discussed the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures and answered questions from the audience.
Dr. Hamas was one of the first surgeons in Dallas to perform liposuction. His body contouring surgery has been featured in D Magazine. Also, D Magazine recognized him as one of Dallas' Leading Plastic Surgeons because of "a contribution to the field, teaching, doing research, fine-tuning a procedure, or even inventing a new way to sculpt the human anatomy."

Contributions

His contributions to the field of plastic surgery include development of endoscopic procedures for eyebrow lift and frown line reduction, design of liposuction instruments and a technique to correct male breast prominence, and research on breast implant shape and surface texture. His work has been presented at national and international meetings and published in medical journals and textbooks.

Dr. Hamas was elected by his peers to serve as president of the Dallas Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has been a leader in developing a program to educate the public about how to choose a properly qualified plastic surgeon. In addition, he established a Patient Advisory Panel to give Texas patients objective and balanced information on new plastic surgery techniques.

Board Certification

Dr. Hamas is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. To receive this certification, he completed six years of training after medical school and then passed rigorous written and oral examinations. Dr. Hamas earned his M.D. from Ohio State University, did his Residency in General Surgery at the University of Texas in Galveston, and his Residency in Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been in private practice in Dallas since 1979.

Credentials

Dr. Hamas has been selected as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and appointed a faculty member at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He is an active member of the following:

• American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

• International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery

Special Recognition

Dr. Hamas is known nationally and internationally for his pioneering work in endoscopic plastic surgery. These procedures use a tiny video camera and special instruments to minimize incisions. He devised endoscopic techniques to reduce frown lines and to lift the eyebrows – without raising the hairline.

As a result of his commitment to teaching, Dr. Hamas has served on the faculty of many endoscopic training courses for plastic surgeons. His instructional videotapes are in the library of the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation and the Aesthetic Surgery Video Journal.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery honored Dr. Hamas with an award for his presentation on the endoscopic eyebrow lift. Also, his work has been recognized by the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, with an invitation to demonstrate his surgical procedures in Canada.
